Reducing single-use plastics: Our ongoing commitment

At HBX Group, we continue to take meaningful steps towards reducing single-use plastics across the travel sector. This month marked Plastic Free Day—a timely reminder of the urgent need to rethink our consumption habits and embrace more sustainable alternatives.

As part of our Sustainable Wave initiative—our awareness campaigns aimed at encouraging hoteliers to adopt more sustainable practices—we’re now entering the third year of our Single-Use Plastic Free campaign, focused on reducing plastic waste in the hospitality industry.

Since its launch in 2023, the campaign has seen remarkable success:

Environmental volunteering: another way to reduce plastic and protect the environment

Beyond reducing plastic use, businesses can actively contribute to environmental protection through volunteering initiatives. These activities not only help remove waste from natural areas, but also raise awareness, reduce pollution-related emissions, and strengthen ties with local communities.

How can your business get involved?

    • Organise clean-up days at beaches, rivers or natural parks.
    • Partner with local NGOs or conservation initiatives.
    • Involve your team and guests in positive-impact activities.
    • Integrate these actions into your sustainability and CSR strategy.

We’ve put together a handy little guide with key tips to help you welcome guests and their pets with comfort, care, and confidence. Check it out!

How can your business move towards a single-use plastic-free model?

In June, our teams took part in environmental clean-ups across several regions, removing a total of 580 kg of waste from natural environments, thanks to the dedication of 25 volunteers. Highlights included:

    • Rome, Italy: 400 kg of waste collected in Caio Sicinio Belluto Park.
    • Rimini, Italy: 70 kg removed from the Marecchia River during the Into the Blue Sea Life Fest.

    • Palma de Mallorca, Spain: 60 kg collected during a yoga and beach clean-up at Torrent Gros.
    • Bali, Indonesia: 50 kg of marine waste removed from Petitenget Beach.
