Elimination of single-use plastic is possible?

Join our sustainability wave and help us to achieve it

Single-use plastic has become one of the biggest environmental challenges of the 21st century. Its proliferation has created an environmental crisis affecting biodiversity, oceans and human health. At HBX Group we are committed to raising awareness of the importance of creating a sustainable future. For us it is important to make our value chain aware of the need to move towards a more sustainable model.

When looking to the side is not the solution

Year after year, tons of plastic are created and find their way into our hands and from our hands into the environment. Here you can see an example of the mismanagement of this waste that is increasingly present in our lives.

Why should we reduce our plastic consumption?

What is the role of the tourism sector?

The tourism industry has a significant impact on the global economy and the environment. With millions of travellers moving around the world, the tourism sector faces the responsibility of reducing its ecological footprint. One of the most critical areas to address is the elimination of single-use plastic. Our industry has a unique opportunity to lead the shift towards more sustainable practices, influencing both suppliers and consumers. Today, thanks to this paradigm shift and the importance of environmental regeneration. Hotel chains have implemented policies, putting the elimination of plastic as a main focus.

Some large hotel chains have already taken a step forward to address this issue. To obtain first-hand information about the implementation of the "plastic free" concept in hotels we have the testimony of Jordan de Villaret Bentinck, Accor’s Vice President of Sustainability and Change Communications, explains the measures has implemented so far and how they have been received by customers.   As already mentioned, going plastic-free can be a challenging task. But here is proof that it is achievable and rewarding. In the video below.

Success case in the sector

It’s no secret there has been a paradigm shift that has influenced the lifestyle of millions of people, affecting all areas of life - including travel and leisure. Whether you are a small business or a large hotel company, implementing changes in your properties requires a lot of time and effort. But it will be worth it! Helping the planet should be incentive enough, but here are some pointers to keep in mind.

Hotels and plastic-free experiences are essential when we think about making tourism a force for good. That is why HBX Group last year launched a programme to help those hotels that want to get started in the process of eliminating plastic from their properties. Today's traveller is increasingly sustainable-minded, but it will be the traveller of the future who will take the sector even further and minimise the impact of tourism on the environment. In the meantime we have a lot of work to do. That's why we present the sustainability wave. It is a programme that seeks to identify and give visibility to those properties with a higher level of sustainability development, in order to be coherent with HBX Group ESG strategy. Help and raise awareness of those properties with a more immature level of sustainability, so that they can gradually join the "Sustainability Wave"
